ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Darrel James received his BS in Biology from Pacific University in Oregon and his MS in Marine Science from Oregon State. He taught Biology for twenty one years, and is presently teaching at Beyer High School in Modesto, Ca. Darrel teaches gifted and talented as well as AP* Biology and is the Department chair.
Darrel has served as a reader, table leader, and assistant chief reader for the AP* Biology Exam since 1990. He has led numerous one day AP* Biology curriculum and grading workshops for the College Board*. Darrell has presented week long institutes for the past twelve summers. He has coached football, track, and girls basketball for Beyer High School. Darrel has led Marine Biology trips to Hawaii for his AP* Biology students. He loves to teach and show people how much fun Biology can be.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
1) To give participants an understanding of the themes and concepts of AP* Biology
2) To give participants a hands on approach to laboratory portion of AP* Biology
3) To help participants to understand the development and grading of the AP* Biology exam.
4) To supply participants with the knowledge and tools they need either to start or to enhance their AP*
Program.
5) To help participants understand that AP* Biology is a fun and exciting subject for both students and teachers.
The College Board is holding a training in April for all of the consultants who will be presenting workshops this summer. At that time a class syllabus will be developed and posted. Rest assured that all new materials, labs and curriculum will be included in this workshop as well as all changes to the Biology exam.
