TUCSON SESSION
U. S. HISTORY
Mike began teaching in 1985 and currently teaches AP* American Government and AP* United States History at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino, California. He started the AP* Government program in 1988 and took over the AP* U.S. History classes in 1992.  He became a reader for the U.S. History exam in 2001 and a Table Leader in 2008 and has worked as a presenter at U.S. History and Social Studies Vertical Teams workshops since 2002.  Mike, a member of the National Council for History Education, has participated in numerous summer programs including the Gilder-Lehman Institute, four NEH Landmarks of American History Workshops, and the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute.  In 2001 Mike was named San Bernardino County's History-Social Science Teacher of the Year.  In addition to his regular teaching duties, Mike serves as the Social Studies Department Chair and Advanced Placement Coordinator.

APSI United States History Course Description
Participants will gain a through understanding of the nature of Advanced Placement U. S, History and how to set up and run a successful AP* U.S.History program. Specific instructional strategies designed to promote critical thinking and to help students effectively access primary and secondary source materials will be reviewed.  Each participant will also receive a vast array of materials for use in their classrooms.  There will e plenty of time set aside to address the particular needs and interests of the teachers attending thus session.

Each day will also include best practices session which can be adjusted to meet the needs of the participants.
